They Still Do That

The Legacy Lives On...

The cowboy has always been the most recognizable figure in the American West. He’s not a creation of Hollywood or a character that passed from the scene a hundred years ago. The cowboy is as real today as he was in 1865 driving the big herds from Texas to the stockyards of Kansas. His legacy has been kept alive in story, song, and in particular, cowboy poetry.

This collection of 30 original cowboy poems represent the life, beliefs, worth ethic, and the humor of the man who rides the range. Whether he’s in Montana, Texas, Wyoming or Nevada, or other points west, he epitomizes what we believe is the best of American manhood.

Dave’s poetry ranges from traditional poems like They Still Do That and Dawn Riders to personal experiences such as Bear Bait and Whistle Stop. His story poems, that have become favorites at his performances, teach a lesson in Choose A Side and The Kid, make you laugh with Gus and the Dude, or make your hair stand on end with The Lone Rider. Dave has drawn on his own cowboy experience to capture the sense and feel of the life of a cowboy.

The book also features numerous black and white photos of various places throughout the west that Dave and his wife Kathy have visited, lived, or worked during their lives.

The cowboy is alive and well, and ridin’ the west – ‘cause they still do that.
